Inspiration for Tower PrepEdit

At Comic-Con 2010, Dini spoke about the inspiration for the show:

"I thought about incidents when I was a kid. I went to a prep school, and I leaned back on my feelings of what it was like at the time – the strangeness and the alienation. The first year was absolutely ghastly, and I always wrote those things down and thought, 'You know, I'm going to use that some day and put it in the realm of fantasy.'" --Paul Dini[1]

The school that inspired Tower Prep is Dini's alma mater Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, California. The geography of its campus bears some similarities to Tower Prep; it is a boarding school that is somewhat isolated from the outside world, surrounded by forests and near cliffs that overlook the Pacific Ocean.

Paul Dini airs a podcast every week, and on April 10th, 2011, Tower Prep was the focus of his podcast. He answered his fans' questions about the show including Fenton Capwell's ability, The Broken, and The Tunnel Man. It can be listened to here
